So please don't give up on us yet!

And check out my birthplace, Oakland. Having been neglected throughout the second half of the twentieth century, and having "location, location, location", it is overall the most affordable place in the Bay Area. (Farther afield, what you save on housing you lose on transportation.) And it seems as if all the energetic young people and crazy creative types are moving there, having been priced out of "The City."

Oakland has a stunning "City Beautiful" overall plan and a rich array of great buildings. Those years of neglect meant that the architectural gems -- commercial, residential, and even industrial -- didn't get torn down and replaced with the soulless modernism that mars much of SF's skyline.

All this and a (major) working port!

Go, Oakland!Howard Tharsinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07431001860503889238noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5474889278345205428.post-53159895245294103142013-05-15T18:31:53.983-07:002013-05-15T18:31:53.983-07:00I just started reading your post. Definitely not true.

William Styron's "Darkness Visible" is a good book, I think, about living with depression--the origin of the term is explained, the therapeutic modalities he endured.

I hope you keep writing.
Mike Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09478879232453144649noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5474889278345205428.post-66489446647462315122013-05-03T04:50:15.381-07:002013-05-03T04:50:15.381-07:00Still here and still following you, Howard.
